Muster Rolls for War of 1812 (NY Militia)

I'm looking for muster rolls for the NY Militia in the War of 1812 (McMahan Regiment, Capt Roger Sutherland (or Rodge Southerland)'s company). In particular at the Niagara Front in 1814. They should include a Jonathan Gellows or Gillows, and I would like to see a list of who else was a part of the company. Thank you!

We checked the Records of the Adjutant General's Office (Record Group 94) and located several muster and pay rolls for McMahan's Regiment, New York Militia, in the series "Muster Rolls of Volunteer Organizations: War of 1812" (entry 55). We would recommend you contact the Archives 1 Reference Branch (RR1R) for additional information regarding the records. You should be aware that all of the War of 1812 muster rolls in the holdings of the National Archives are in very poor to fragile condition, so we cannot guarantee that it will be possible to obtain a copy of the record. An alternative method would be to access the Compiled Military Service Records (CMSRs) for the entire regiment to obtain the names of all members of Capt. Roger Sutherland's Company, as they were transcribed from the original rolls. This could only be accomplished, however, by visiting the National Archives Building in Washington, DC (Pennsylvania Avenue location) as the War of 1812 CMSRs for most states, including New York, have not been reproduced in other formats, either on microfilm or digitally. If you are unable to visit the National Archives, you may wish to consider hiring a professional researcher in the Metro DC area to consult the records on your behalf. A list of researchers for hire is available on the NARA website at www.archives.gov/research/hire-help. This list is provided as a courtesy to the general public, but otherwise it is an unvetted list with no implied endorsement of any particular individual or business.

We hope this information assists you with your research!

    Sincerely,
