WW1 soldier transport records

Hello,

Are there records available that show WW1 soldiers transported between England and France? I have my ancestor's troop transport records from NY to England and back from England (wounded) and would like to find info about his transportation to/from the battlefield. He was injured in battle in July 1918 near Chateau Thierry so I'd also like to know if there are any hospital rolls/rosters/records available.

thanks, Judy

Although the holdings of the National Archives include Lists of Incoming Passengers, 1917–1938 and Lists of Outgoing Passengers, 1917–1938 in Record Group 92 Records of the Office of the Quartermaster General, which are primarily for ocean-going ships, they do not include passenger lists for the vessels that transported troops across the English Channel from Great Britain to France during World War I.

The holdings of the National Archives include the official reports of the activities of World War I U.S. Army hospitals in Record Group 112 Records of the Office of the Surgeon General (Army) and Record 120 Records of the American Expeditionary Forces (World War I). However, these records do not include rosters or information about individual patients.

It is possible that the information you seek is held in your ancestor's military personnel service records.

Military personnel service records, including the DD Form 214 Discharge Papers and Separation Documents and military medical records from approximately World War I forward, are held at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. Veterans and veteran's next of kin can use the eVetRecs Online Application to request military service records. You may also use the Standard Form 180 (SF-180) to request the records. The SF-180 is a fillable pdf form, you can enter the information on your screen and then print out the completed form.
