Seeking military records of Andrew Viser from France

My 5th great grandfather was Andrew Viser.  He was born in France and came to the US to serve with the French in the American Revolution.  He came in 1780 and was discharged or deserted in 1782 in Charlottesville, VA.  Trying to find records on him and not sure where to search.  He did apply in early 1830s for a pension, his application was made to Congress in a couple of their sessions, an application and an appeal.  I don't know how to access Congressional records, especially from the 1830s.

  • I was hoping I could revive this posting in hopes a new search would discover an avenue to pursue.  I posted here that his name was Andrew Joseph Viser.  That was the name most records have for him as he settled in the States.  His birth name, the one in the French parish records lists his name as Andre' Josephe' Vasseur.  I am guessing that was the name he used as he boarded and made his passage here.  Are there any records in that name VASSEUR or something close?  He was born in 1757 and came in the spring of 1780.  He and his comrade claim they were sworn into AR service in Virginia by General George Washington.  His friend was George Druen/Druon.  Andrew settled in VA and generated records in Buckingham County, VA from 1784 to just before 1810.  He is not in the 1810 census there as he had left for Montgomery Co, TN shortly before, he began selling off part of his land in 1809 and the remaining piece in 1813 in absentia.  His son is recorded there in 1813 and he is noted there in the 1820 census.  In 1830 he was in Lawrence Co, AL where he died in 1833 but not before applying twice, first on his own and 2nd through his Congressman.  Neither application was approved. No explanation has been given as to why.  I know he may not have ever established citizenship, the county where such a record existed experienced a total loss when the courthouse burned in 1869.    Andrew was the father of John L Viser ( wife Mary Becton Dillahunty), Mary Ann Viser Fowler ( husband Robert), Peter ( wife unknown), my William who married Rachel Brazelton.  John married in DavidsonCo, TN in 1810, Mary Ann in MontgomeryCo, TN in 1810, Peter and William married mid-1810s also in Montgomery.    This is a difficult family to research.  The Viser name is not spelled as such consistently there is a lack of census and marriage records to help track movements.  No one else used the name Viser in those states at the time period so any reference is likely my family.  Any help with records is appreciated.
