Seeking explanation of "individual flight record - pilot" documents

During Korean War, individual flight records for pilots contained data in the "Mission Symbol" column.  What do the codes mean (e.g., "C-6"; "C-10", "C", "S-3" etc.? What do the entries stand for in the "To" and "From" columns (e.g., To: "Seoul" From: "K-10") - where is K-10 and all the other "Ks"? Is it possible to find out where the missions were to locations marked "Classified"?

  • Craig,

I don’t have a clue about the Mission Symbol codes; however a good list for the K-XX airfields can be found in Wikipedia under “USAF units and aircraft of the Korean War.  Scroll to the bottom of the web page for the list.  Some of the airfields have their own Wikipedia entries.  There is also a map with labels in the USAF official history “The United States Air Force in Korea 1950-1953” by Robert Futrell (GPO, 1983) on page 644.

As for the “classified” mission entries, you would have to work with the folks at Maxwell.

I hope this helps a bit.
