Seeking records of the 94th Signal Battalion

We would love more information on 94th Signal Battalion during WWII. My wife’s Grandfather was part of this unit. We do not have much information on his service other than a bring back pistol and the knowledge he crossed the Remagen bridge. His name was Ed Kegeris.

    To be clear on my response earlier and the Remagen Bridge. In my previous response I note the Ludendorff Bridge. The Ludendorff Bridge is the bridge that was captured at Remagen. Yes, the 94th crossed that Bridge and is where they earned the Presidential Unit Citation AWARD.  Just a note: the bridge was under heavy German artillery but they couldn't blow it up. The bridge actually collapsed and killed many construction repair guys within the unit. The bridge was repaired and eventually crossed. As another FYI, the 94th Signal battalioin is the only signal unit to cross the Rhine River during WW2. There is also a great note in the book on page 277. It reads:

    "There is one great thing you men will be able to say after this war is all over and you are at home once again. And you may thank God for it. You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you did in the great World War II, you won't have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, "well , your granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana, "No Sir! You can look him straight in the eye and say, "Son, your Granddaddy rode with the great Third Army and s*h name Georgie Patton."

    I found this to be fantastic.

    Joe, I'm also researching my grandfather the 94th Signals Battalion, but I'm out in California and getting that book out here from the library in Iowa might not be possible once you're done with it (still checking with my local library folks). I'd like to get in touch directly if possible to talk about what was in the book. You can look me up by my name on Facebook - my picture has me standing in front of a restored SdKfz 222.

    I will look you up sometime today. My plan is to document the 94th's trail from their creation on through the war's end. I can do that as I now have all of the information and will share the detail with you and any others who want information regarding the 94th Signal Battalion. The funny thing is that there is not much published on the Battalion if you google it.

    I could not locate you on facebook. What is your grandfathers full name. The book notes many, not all members of the 94th signal battallion, who received an award. Some were left out not by intent but by circumstances beyond the author.

    My father was in the 94 Signal Battalion. I was very interested in his itinerary and what ship he was on, he left in Aug 1944 and where he landed. I want to trace his route over France and more to Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge.

    I want to memorialize it for my family. My father was reluctant to talk about his war experience, but I know he was with the group that got to the bridge at Remagen, and found it was still standing. He told me that Patton wanted to continue and was first to the river before Montgomery. I think they actually crossed it?..Where did they go from there?

    If you have information, would appreciate hearing about it.@

    I found a book in my Dad's things. History of the 94th Signal Battalion 18 May 1944 to 18 May 1945. It is 22 pages. No author. It is quite detailed. Also listed is the General order 150 which list the men who recieved the bronze star. There are 42 names listed .Included is a silver star and purple heart  person. Also a copy of General order 194 Unit Citation (award for the Ludendorf Bridge campaign) and a copy of my Dad's bronze Star citation. My Dad was assigned to the Headquarters Company. I would be willing to share any are all of the info.

    Hi Stan  I would like to discuss the history you mentioned.  There is a printed History of the 94th Signal Battalion that perhaps yours is a working copy? or Draft.   My father was in B company since the beginning  of the Battalion until its end in December 1945.  I had tried to contact others on this site like Joseph Raniere above but many post but then never seem to come back and check for updates and such.

    I can not include my email id but you can contact me through  this hub. There is instructions below. I will try to reach out to you through that means.  I am planning on going to Germany this November and stay a night in Arlon Belgium at the school in which the 94th was bombed Jan 1 1945 then up to Bastogne, Haut-Martelange and onto Remagen and take current photos. Be glad to share photos when I'm back.

    I have the orginal book from the copy I sent you. It was used by Lt Bennett to write the book about the 94th only he is more detailed about before and after.they arrived in Europe. I wouild lovew to see any pictures you take on your trip. I wish I could be of more help but as you know our relatived did not talk much about their service. You can do a library to library transfer of his book. They will only send a few chapters at a time. It took me a few months to get the portions I requested. I am always digging and If I find anything new I will let you know. Several good movies to watch that are mentioned in the hsitory of the 94th, Bridge at Remagen, Patton, Battle of the Bulge, Miracel of the White Stallions ( the rescue of the Lipazzen stations by Patton), called "Operation Cowboy" The 94th sent out the message from Patton looking for any experienced cowboys to drive the horse to safety. My Dad was one of them.  Glad I could help, wish it was more.
