I am looking for the 1968 after action reports for the 2/39th Infantry, Echo Company, Juliet and Romeo platoons. Would appreciate any help or directions finding them.

Dear Mr. Sullivan,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Infantry Unit Records, 1965 - ca. 1973 in the Records of the U.S. Forces in Southeast Asia (Record Group 472) that includes an organizational history from 1966 to 1969 (Box 622); daily journals from January 1968 to December 1968 (Boxes 626-628 & 635-636); and after action reports (AARs) for 1967 (Box 638) of the 2/39th Infantry. We were unable to locate specific records of Echo Company or Juliet and Romeo platoons. Records of lower echelon units sometimes were incorporated into the files of the regiment. We were unable to locate AARs of the 2/39th for 1968.
Since the 2/39th Infantry was part of the 1st Brigade, 9th Infantry Division, we located After Action Reports, 3/1967 - 1968 for the 1st Brigade, 9th Infantry Division in the Records of the U.S. Forces in Southeast Asia (Record Group 472) that include reports pertaining to operations Colby, Iola, Junction City, Akron, Paddington, Pittsburgh, Riley, Rocket, Santa Fe, Hoptac, Truong Cong Dinh, and Toan Thang II. There were no separate AARs located for the 2/39th.
We also located After Action Reports, 1964 - 1971 in Record Group 472 that includes a file unit titled Report Number 28-69 - 1st Brig./9th ID Combat AAR 28 02/ 1969 [Operation QUYET CHIEN 13 11/ - 3112/ 1968]. No separate AARs for 2/39th were located.
For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) at archives2reference@nara.gov.
