Hello All,
I am looking for confirmation if my grandfather was in the 45th Inf Div.
His service number was 33263342.
He was in the PA National Guard but enlisted in the Army on 23 Apr 1942 (enlistment record).
He first left CONUS 08 June 1943 and returned 09 June 1944 ( Application for World War II compensation from PA). The departure falls in line with the 45th's departure date.
He was admitted to hospital care Nov 1943 and discharged back to duty in Jan 1944 for a cold weather injury to the foot (WWII Hospital Admission File Cards).
Family lore was that he fought in Africa, Sicily, and Italy before returning to the States and then back to Europe to finish up the War. The Mediterranean theater and the Italian campaign of the 45th account for those stories.
In his much older years, he wore a CIB. This was after a stroke. He was in the CAV in the PA NG and an Artillerymen during his return trip to Europe, C Battery 862nd FA BN (105mm) 63rd ID.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you for your assistance.
Mark
