On April 26, 1945, the 26th US Infantry Division (XII Corps) reaches the northern bank of the Danube in front of Straubing. Shortly beforehand, the bridges over the Danube into the town of Straubing had been blown up by the SS. The 26th US Infantry Division does not cross the Danube into the town. Straubing is taken without a fight only two days later on April 28 by the XX Corps (71st Inf. Div./5th Inf. Reg.) coming from the west south of the Danube. However, the After Action Report of the 3rd Army (Part 1) describes that Straubing was captured by the XII Corps.
