Grandfather Col. Raymond F. Nicholson was in the Army Air Corp during WW2.

Grandfather Col. Raymond F. NIcholson was in the Army Air Corp (first class of cadets 1929) and was assigned to the War Dept in the Pentagon during WW2. Also possibly part of occupation forces in Europe post war. Unable to locate any service records (St. Louis fire) to investigate. Unable to identify insignia. Deceased in on duty air crash August 1950. Any kind of assistance is appreciated.

    Newspapers have articles about the crash.  In particular, the 19 Aug 1950 issue of the Washington, DC Evening Star has a lengthy article as well as crash site photos. It can be viewed on the Library of Congress Chronicling America site.  According to the article, “he had been recalled for two weeks of active service, and had been assigned to the Civil Aeronautics Administration.”
