Hello. I read with interest the post seeking official record about an earned DFC. I'm doing some family research on my grandfather, Ken J Higgins, who served in WWII in the Army Air Corp. He completed a twenty year career retiring from the Air Force in 1962 as a major. He went from enlisted to officer and from waist gunner to pilot. We have little to no information specifically about which units he served in, when or in what capacity. He did have a distinguished flying cross (DFC) ribbon and medal which our family found after he passed. I had tried to search for him in online (DFC) sites but he isn't listed. I'd like to research it and get it vetted so that I may petition to have him added to that list. I believe it would honor his memory to do so and help to assist others with similar issues so that their loved ones record can be esteemed and honored as well. Trouble is I'm not sure where to start. I believe he initially served in the 419th Bomb Squadron, 301st Bombardment Group.
I appreciate your efforts to help the original poster and since it seems I have a similar question was hoping you could point me in the direction of where I might look to find the information on my grandfather's award as well.
