My dad was in the 9th Division, 47th Infantry in WWII. I am trying to map his travels through Europe after landing on Utah Beach, June 1944. His name at the time was Pete Puhar, Tech 5. During that time, he was awarded the Silver Star.

I am trying to map the travels of my father through Europe after he left Sicily. He was with the 9th Division, 47th Infantry, otherwise known as "The Old Reliables".

  • Hello,

Here is a basic outline of your dad’s unit’s locations/movements during the war:

Source: Stanton, Shelby “World War II Order of Battle” Various editions.

A book that might provide more detailed information on this topic, if you haven’t seen it already, is:

”Raiders,” which is an official 47th INF book, published soon after the war. It appears to cover from the unit’s initial training at Fort Bragg to the occupation of Germany. There are used hard copies available and  pdf versions.
