Dependent murders at Kadena AB 1976

Trying to find any information regarding dependent murders on Kadena AB Okinawa  circa 1976-77. I was a K9 Dog Handler there in this timeframe and I know there were multiple murders that happened there. One in particular was a young lady that was a cab driver and was murdered and left in an abandoned housing area and I had to search for the culprit with my dog.  Ive tried FOIA through USAf OSI and they did a brief search and denied any event like this ever happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub.

We do have some records of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, typically in series among the Records of U.S. Air Force Commands, Activities, and Organizations (Record Group 342).  However, we have been unable to locate records on murders at Kadena Air Base in the mid-1970s among them.  Searches of other records of the Air Force which dealt with Kadena were similarly unsuccessful.

Although unlikely, information on your unit or other units involved could lead to additional series to consider.  We might have unit records, but you also may wish to contact the Air Force Historical Research Agency, 600 Chennault Circle, Building 1405, Maxwell Air Force Base, AL  36112-6424.  Its website is https://www.afhra.af.mil/.  Additional records could be in its custody.

If you can identify units involved or if you have additional questions for the staff at Archives II, please email us at archives2reference@nara.gov so that we can assist you further.  We also invite you to continue the conversation with community members on History Hub.

We regret that we can not be of more assistance at this time.

    Sincerely,

Textual Reference Archives II Branch (RR2RR)

  • I was stationed at Kadena during that time with 18th SPS. I worked closely with the K9 handlers and I’m sure we met. I was told that the young lady in the cab was killed by a marine stationed there.

  • Thank you for the reply, I’ve asked so many agencies for confirmation of this incident and all were met with denials. I’ll try Maxwell records. Many thanks for the response! Take care!
