Hi All,
my name is Rand Ponting. My father Harry served in the 509th. Like everyone I have been trying to track down pictures and history of the unit and possibly of dad. I have his DD-214. I know he was in Oklahoma for training and did all five European campaigns. Growing up, his nickname was Bud or Buddy
looking forward to hearing from anyone
Rand,
I am so glad you wrote here. Your father and my father definitely knew each other because I have about 4 photos that my father labeled that your father is in. About a year ago I started Googling the names of the men listed on the back of the photos and saw that your father had passed. I was hoping to find a way to get these images to the families of the men in the photos and was very happy to see your message. I have the photos scanned and can email you copies. I have been communicating with Dan Malley, his father was their Sargent. Dan and I have had to first connect through Facebook and then we exchanged emails outside of History Hub because posting photos here is supported.
If you are on Facebook, Annette Harlow is my name and my Facebook photo is me and two of our dogs outside at a picnic table.
I also have photos from the different towns the 509th was in, Dan has been chronicling their service and I look forward to seeing his data, for now I have been sending him photos.
Looking forward to hearing from you ,
Annette Harlow
