The Still Picture Branch has also received your question via email and have responded to your request through email. While we have responded to your inquiry already, we did want to provide similar information here for your convenience.
According to the Military, graduates’ formal photos, both individual and group, were taken by private local commercial photographers and offered for sale at the time taken. Unfortunately those items never became part of official military records nor were they retained by the commercial photographers responsible for shooting the photos. That said, the Still Picture Branch does hold many candid photos of U.S. Military personnel, though most photos do not identify the individuals pictured. However, we do have a US Army name index, filed by the last name. The index has been digitized within our online catalog. The series is titled 111-PX: Index to Personalities in the U.S. Army Signal Corps Photographic Files (1940-1981) and can be found in our catalog here: https://catalog.archives.gov/search-within/530686?sort=title%3Aasc. A tutorial on how to use the Army, WWII and Korea personality index can be found at: https://unwritten-record.blogs.archives.gov/2020/05/12/how-to-search-still-photographs-for-army-personalities/. We did search the 111-PX index but did not locate any listings for Lyman Bad Yellow Hair.
We invite you to continue the conversation with community members on History Hub, but should you have follow up questions for the staff at Archives II, please email us at stillpix@nara.gov so that we can assist you further.
We hope this assists you with your research!
