Silver Star Citation First Lt. John N. Lowden

I would like to have a copy of citation that accompanied the Silver Star my second cousin, First, Lt. John N. Lowden was awarded in 1944 while serving with the 45th Infantry Division. I believe it was General Orders No.265. Thank you.

  • He is listed in the 3 January 1944 Roster of the 45th CRT as a CPL.

    On 12 October 1944, "S/SGT BAZE, S/SGT LOWDEN and S/SGT

COULSON were appointed to 2nd Lt. effective 11 October 1944 (Battle

    Field Promotion)."

The 45th saw no action in North Africa but John served in Italy for certain, Sicily possibly.

  • Thanks again Dave! I have learned so much these past couple weeks! It sure sounds like he saw his share of action. He was wounded April 25th 1945 and on May 6 1945 he was on a Medical Transport C44 that crashed at Gibbet Hill, Surrey England and died along with 29 others including the crew. He never made it home and is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery.  I only discovered this a couple weeks ago, I was born 15 years later and his story was rarely told and was very inaccurate. I am so grateful to you and others for helping me in my quest to finally

give First Lt. John Norman Lowden the recognition he deserves here at home.
