Seeking official list of WWII Distinguished Flying Cross recipients

According to newspaper reports my Dad, David E. Harnly, received a Distinguished Flying Cross for his participation in medium bomber combat missions over the coast of France during WWII. I've been trying to find an official record of the award but have not had any luck.  Any suggestions on where to look?

  • John,

    GO - General Orders

    BS - Bomber Squadron

    BG - Bomber Group

    AF - Air Force

NPRC - National Personnel Records Center

    OLC - Oak Leaf Clusters

    PH- Purple Heart

    BS- Bronze Star

    AM- Air Medal

    DFC- Distinguished flying cross

They usually issue the first medal in this case the Air Medal then anything after that is represented by an OLC going forward to show additional awards of that medal.

These were mostly like awards that were issued after the mission or campaign. Hope these acronyms help you.

    Thanks,
