You're totally right that this is tedious. I don't think you're missing anything. At the moment we don't have a way of doing that, but I think it's something we were trying to address in a recent tech sprint. I'll have a look into why we haven't yet and whether it's in the pipeline. I'll check in on this soon.

We took your feedback into consideration and created a fix or workaround for this issue. If you click on "Let's go" in the carousel on the home page, specifically the second carousel image that features review, this will bring you to a page you haven't reviewed or transcribed before. Then, once you've reviewed that page and click "submit" you'll be offered the choice of tagging, finding a new page to transcribe or finding a new page to review. The two latter options will take you to something you haven't transcribed or reviewed before.
We've been discussing the possibility of filtering when you're in the "project" or "items" view (where you choose a date range or genre, and then a specific item such as a letter or notebook, but this is a more involved change to the interface which we do not currently have the ability to address.
