USS Bradley (FF-1041) CIC logs for Nov 1979 - Jan 1980

    Martin Bourque Newbie

I'm trying to find if the CIC (Combat Information Center) logs for USS Bradley FF-1041 from Nov 1979 to Jan 1980 are archived.  I checked https://www.archives.gov/research/military/logbooks/navy-online and my ships logs do not appear to be digitized yet.  I'm not even sure the CIC logs would be something that gets archived.   I was stationed on the Bradley from '77-'80 and I'm trying to find logs when we were off Iran during the Hostage Crisis in '79 and '80,  flight logs for my fathers squadron during the Korean war, and any logs associated with the Hindenburg disaster because my Grandfather was on the ground that day.  I figured I would start with something a bit newer like my own logs.

      Thanks

          Dear Mr. Bourque,

Thank you for submitting your question to History Hub.

As our deck log digitization project continues, please return periodically to the National Archives Catalog  to check on our progress concerning the USS Bradley (FF-1041). For access to or copies of these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

As you correctly surmised, CIC logs are not considered permanent records by the Navy and NARA does not accession them.  In fact, the only permanent ship’s logs are the smooth deck logs, so all of those logs maintained by the various shipboard departments are ultimately destroyed.

We hope this information is helpful.
