3 people found this helpfulDear Ms. Schofield,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub.
We suggest that you begin your search at the South Carolina Department of Archives & History (http://scdah.sc.gov/Pages/default.aspx) and/or local libraries and archives such as listed on the SCIWAY web site at http://www.sciway.net/lib/ that might be helpful to find what you seek.
A book titled Records of the Ante-Bellum Southern Plantations may be useful in your search. This is a microfilm set of manuscripts dealing primarily with the pre-1865 period from several repositories throughout the south. The accompanying book titled Index to Records of Ante-Bellum Southern Plantations by Jean L. Cooper, indexed deeds, wills, estate papers, genealogies, personal and business correspondence, account books, slave lists, and many other types of records. Both of these are microfilmed and are available for viewing at the Library of Congress and many other institutions.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
