Hello Mr. Neal,
Thank you for contacting the History Hub!
Records cannot be altered once they have become Archival. However there is likely that both names in appear in the files the National Archives has on record for him.
His Navy Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF) from the National Archives in St. Louis is considered Archival and releasable to the public due to his date of death. We recommend submitting Request Pertaining to Military Records form to the St. Louis location to begin an inquiry. You may also request a burial case file for him as well. When you submit your request, please list both names and indicate which is the name you’ve found in the lists as well as a note that he had been buried at sea.
