Re: I'm wanting to request my dad's Medals, Awards and Decorations that where never issued. As the eldest son but not the eldest child can I do this? It said someplace that if it's been 65 years (Discharged in 1945) I can apply for them.

You can follow the links here to request medals.
https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records
However, you mentioned that you want to find additional medals that were never issued. What medals does your family know he had already received? Usually when requesting medals either way NPRC will only verify those that made it onto his discharge papers. If you think that he should have received an award that is not on discharge papers, you may have to prove this information, then address this issue with the specific branch of service. Hope this helps you with your request.
Thanks,
Elliot Schneider

Leslie Jones Jul 7, 2018 8:22 PM (in response to Elliot Schneider)Elliot,
We have a copy of his Enlisted Record and Report of Separation, "Honorable Discharge", (not sure what form this is as the bottom did not copy) which shows these medals. WW II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the EAME (?)Theater Ribbon with Two Bronze Service Stars. We have no idea what the Bronze Stars where given for, which is another quest that I'd like to track down.
Thank You

Re: Seek my dad's Medals, Awards and Decorations never issued
Elliot Schneider Jul 9, 2018 7:54 AM (in response to Leslie Jones)Hello Leslie,
This form you have is called a WD AGO 53-55, you are correct in that it is his discharge papers. The most important thing that could help you is at the top left it tells what unit he was with. Please share if you would like, this will help determine where to look for his bronze star awards.

Elliot Schneider Jul 9, 2018 7:58 AM (in response to Elliot Schneider)1 person found this helpfulLeslie,
The two bronze stars on the ETO ribbon are what they call battle stars, this is determined by the Army and the unit it is the battles that the unit participated in during his time in Europe.

2 people found this helpfulDear Leslie Jones,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you refer to our webpage at https://www.archives.gov/veterans/replace-medals. Since you are not the eldest child, you are considered part of the general public. Since your father was discharged in 1945, his records would be considered archival.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

Re: Seek my dad's Medals, Awards and Decorations never issued
joan stachnik Jul 10, 2018 7:40 AM (in response to Leslie Jones)1 person found this helpfulHI Leslie, just to add to the posted responses, we sent a copy of our dad's discharge papers to the address listed in the link posted by Ms. Collier, with a letter requesting replacement medals as indicated on his discharge papers. As noted by Mr. Schneider, the bronze service stars are unit decorations and are placed on the appropriate ribbons. Getting replacement medals does take some time, however. We've gotten a few and are waiting for the remainder. Once requested, you should get a response with a case number. You can then check the status of your request online using the case number. Hope this is of help. joan
