There is also a book available on German immigration: Wittke, Carl. Refugees of Revolution: The German Forty-Eighters in America. Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 1952. The book examines German immigration to the U.S. following the failed 1848 revolution in Germany. The book may be available at a university library or through interlibrary loan.
