Seeking immigration records for Julius Bublitz

    William Bublitz Newbie

I am looking for immigration records for the Bublitz family, especially any information on when Julius Bublitz came to America from Germany.

          Dear Mr. Bublitz,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Passenger Lists, 1817 - 1897 of vessels arriving at the Port of New York in the Records of the U.S. Customs Service (Record Group 36) that may include the lists of SS Hansa for April 7, 1876 for Julius Bublitz, his parents and siblings with the destination listed as Chicago, IL. For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at New York (RE-NY) at newyork.archives@nara.gov.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RE-NY. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

The records you seek are now available in digital form and may be viewed online via Ancestry. There may be a fee for using this service. Instead, please check for access at your local library as many library systems subscribe to these sites, making them free for their patrons. Also, some of the images from Ancestry are available for free on FamilySearch.

For the information you seek about the ship departure list of the SS Hansa from Germany, we suggest you contact the Bundesarchiv, Postfach 450 569, 12175 Berlin, Germany.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

You did not give approximate birth years or the names of other relatives, so I am guessing that this Julius born 1871 is the correct person.  So far I have only been able to find the departure list, indirect from Hamburg, for the family.   In the case of indirect departures the person or persons sailed on one ship from Hamburg to Hull England and then travelled across England to Liverpool, where they got on another ship to the US.
