Seeking Navy Records about USS Trigger (SS 564)

    Tom Boyer Adventurer

Ancestry.com has a card catalog of Officer Distribution Control Report and Personnel Diary for Navy ship USS Trigger (SS 564). Are those available on-line in NARA?

          Dear Mr. Boyer,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Muster Rolls and Personnel Diaries of U.S. Navy Ships, Stations, and Other Naval Activities, 1/1/1949 - 12/31/1971 in the Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel (Record Group 24) that may include the muster rolls of the SS Trigger (SS-564). However, the muster rolls for this ship are not yet available online through the National Archives Catalog. For more information about these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.  Please note that the Muster rolls/Personnel Diaries for 1971 utilize social security numbers as service numbers and are subject to privacy restrictions.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
