            Dear Mr. Lindsey,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We suggest that you review NARA’s Resources for Genealogists, as well as the History Hub Blog titled Suggestions and Advice for Family History Researchers. Also, the FamilySearch Research wiki for United States Genealogy may be useful.

We also suggest that you contact the State Archives or Health Department of the State where your grandfather was born in order to request a search for a birth certificate or register.  You may wish to note any name variants or broaden your search for the surrounding years.

Some public records that may be useful to your research are now available in digital form and may be viewed online via such services as Ancestry and Fold3. There may be a fee for using these services. Instead, please check for access at your local library as many library systems subscribe to these sites, making them free for their patrons. Also, some of the images from Ancestry are available for free on FamilySearch.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

              Hello Mr. Lindsey:

So, it looks like you are missing considerable information on your Great Grandfather.  You may want to consider trying to get as many facts as you can on your Grandfather.  This may include information on your Great Grandfather.  Do you know your Grandfather's name, when he was born, where he was born, who he married.  Even if you need to interview family and friends, you should be able to obtain som records of your grandfather that include information on your great Grandfather.

Use the usual sources:  Family Search, Find A Grave and others.  Also, if you go to the local library, you can use their computers to get on Ancestry for FREE and search for anyone.  When you find what you want, there is a button to email the information to you.  You can even send images home.  Ask your librarian for assistance if needed.

              Best of Luck,

              Paul Hendee
