Seeking military photo & gravesite of Theodore Richard Rambeau

    Carrie Campbell Newbie

Hello Research Community, Please help, Seeking military photo and gravesite of grandfather, Theodore Richard Rambeau, who was a Marine, stationed on Mariana's Island, Guam U.S.A, from 1947-1950.Was able to trace DNA results to relatives, create a family tree but was not able to find photos of him or burial records. My mother would like to visit his gravesite to pay her respect. She has never seen a photo of him and would like to give her that. Records indicate SSA Death record as reflected above, August 5th, 2007, with no burial information, obituary or gravesite location. If you could help any way, It would be great appreciated.

            Dear Carrie Campbell,

Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!

It is possible that a service person’s Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) may contain a photograph of the individual, but there is no guarantee there will be a photograph in the file.

We suggest that you request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs and medical records of officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. Marine Corps who were separated from service after 1904 and before 1959 are located at NARA's National Personnel Records Center (NPRC), (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO  63138-1002.  To request these records, please mail a completed GSA Standard Form 180 to NPRC. Veterans and their next of kin also may use eVetRecs to request records. See eVetRecs Help for instructions. For more information see Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Archival Records Requests

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NPRC will continue servicing requests ONLY associated with medical treatments, burials, and homeless veterans seeking admittance to a homeless shelter. If your request is urgent, please see Emergency Requests and Deadlines. Please refrain from submitting non-emergency requests such as replacement medals, administrative corrections, or records research until NPRC returns to pre-COVID staffing levels. Please check archives.gov/veterans for updates to the NPRC operating hours and status. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

Photographs of various U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps activities dating from 1940 to 2007 are in the custody of the National Archives at College Park - Still Picture (RDSS). Please contact RDSS via email at stillpix@nara.gov and their website is https://www.archives.gov/dc-metro/college-park/photographs-dc.html.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDSS. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

Additionally, some History Hub participants provided some helpful suggestions for finding photographs of people in the military on this History Hub question: Seeking a photograph of dad in uniform.

We hope this is helpful. Good luck with your research!
