          Dear Diana West:

Thank you for posting your question on History Hub!

We suggest consulting our website for additional information about land records. In order for staff onsite at the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1)(archives1reference@nara.gov) to conduct a search, additional information is needed such as the state, land office and type of patent. You can obtain this information by conducting searches on the Bureau of Land Management's website.

It is worth noting that many of the early land registers are by state, so you may also wish to reach out to the local state archives where this individual lived to see if they have any relevant records related to Thomas West. You may also wish to use census data to find this information. More information about census records and researching individuals can be found on our website at https://www.archives.gov/research/genealogy/census/about.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) . We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this information assists you with your research!
