Thank you for your inquiry. The U.S. Census Bureau published "Statistical Abstract of the United States" between 1878 and 2012. The 1949 version (which includes statistics from 1948) can be found online here. Immigration statistics begin on page 91 (which would be part 2 of the digital version), and a chart with statistics by country is found on page 96. According to this document, it appears that 5,823 immigrated from Ireland (listed as Eire here), while another 1,711 were from Northern Ireland. The abstract may have other information related to these numbers that can provide even more information.
