Dear Mr. Helget,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The 2002 Winter Olympics was designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE). When an event is designated an NSSE, the United States Secret Service (USSS) becomes the lead federal agency in developing, exercising, and implementing security operations. The USSS works closely with state and local governments as well as other federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We searched online and located the following articles and other sources regarding security at the 2002 Olympics. Additional articles may be available online.
Because the event was so recent, the National Archives does not have any records concerning this matter. Please contact the USSS, the FBI, and the other organizations listed in the sources above in order to file a FOIA request as well as contacting the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
