Seeking information about Martin Talcott Jr.

    Marie Talcott Newbie

Martin Talcott Jr. was born on Dec 19, 1934 in Kings County, Brooklyn, N.Y. died March 30, 2013 in Calf. I want to find out if he is my lost half-brother whom I have never met. I only have a picture of him as a small child. My father who was born in Sweden 1907 and lived in NY during that time. I would be most grateful if someone could advise me on how, or help me to find information about Martin Talcott Jr.'s parents so I can find out if he is my brother.

              Hi Annie,

Thank you, I was so excited to find the History Hub!

Yes, you are right about my father. He was married to Harriet Lundell in 1930. They were later divorced and I think she remarrried after that.

The mother of Martin Jr is someone else and I think my father was married to her when they had a son.

Martin Jr's birth is listed in NY, Births 1910-1965 (Brooklyn,1935. born Dec 19,'34 no 79) but I am not sure he is the right Martin so I would be really glad if I could find out more information about him.

Do you know if it´s possible to find out who the parents are?

Thank you so much for taking an interest!

              Dear Ms. Talcott,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Population Schedules for the 1930 Census in the Records of the Bureau of the Census (Record Group 29) that indicates that Martin Talcott is residing in household of Irving Lundell, Brooklyn (Districts 1751-1953), Kings, New York, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 1877, sheet 17B, line 55, family 368; listed as married to Harriet Talcott. The schedules for New York have not been digitized. For access to the non-digitized schedules, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.

We also located the Population Schedules for the 1940 Census in Record Group 29 that contains the file unit New York - Kings County which includes the sheets for ED 24-225. Harriet [Talcott] is listed on Image 5 but with no children. The schedules have been digitized and are available using the Catalog.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

For information about the U.S. Census, see the Census Bureau technical documentation and questionnaires as well as NARA’s page on Census Records.

You may wish to search Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org for the U.S. Census. There may be a fee for using Ancestry. Instead, please check for access at your local library as many library systems subscribe to these sites, making them free for their patrons.

In addition, we suggest that you contact the Municipal Archives to request a marriage license search for Martin & Harriett Talcott.  The Municipal Archives maintains historical birth, death and marriage records for the five boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island).

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

                  Hi Cara,

Thank you so much for your info and efforts.

The person I am seeking is born 1934 and it appears hard to get information about him. Unfortunately Municipal archives only have  birth records before 1909.

I have located my father in the 1930 Census records and I am also an Ancestry member.

When I tried to order a Birth certificate from NYC Department of Health I was asked to provide a Death certificate first...

Still hope there is some way I can find out if Martin Jr born 19 Dec 1934 is my lost brother or not.

                  Kind regards,

                  Marie
