Re: Seeking morning & operation reports of 81st Troop Carrier Squadron
joan stachnik Jan 6, 2021 5:20 PM (in response to Brian Curley)HI Brian, if you are looking for information on a family member, have you tried contacting the National WWII Glider Pilots Committee (https://www.ww2gp.org/personnel/)? I found them very helpful when looking for information on glider flights during during World War II. Hope this is of some help. joan

Brian Curley Jan 7, 2021 11:26 AM (in response to joan stachnik)Morning Joan,
I have been working with the Glider Pilots Committee in fact they recommended I search here for this information. I am trying to track my father through the war and build his file in the Glider Pilots Museum.

Re: Seeking morning & operation reports of 81st Troop Carrier Squadron
joan stachnik Jan 7, 2021 12:53 PM (in response to Brian Curley)Brian, you may already have tried, but the Air Force Historical Research Agency might be of use also (https://www.afhra.af.mil). Various documents related to Troop Carrier missions are held there, digital format. There is a separate index page that helps in the search (http://airforcehistoryindex.org/search.php?q=436+tcg&c=u&h=25&F=&L= ). But with COVID restrictions, I don't know if they are responding to requests.
I have some documents from them but my searches regarding glider pilots focused on the 435th TCG out of Welford on D-Day and the 316th for Market Garden. I will check if I have anything for the 436th. joan

Dear Mr. Curley,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) has custody of microfilm copies of operational records relating to U.S. Army Air Force units. We searched the Air Force History index to the microfilm and located 19 files that pertain to the 81st Troop Carrier Squadron. Please read the brief Abstract to determine which records you are interested in and click on the specific PDF icon. In the PDF listing, the IRISREF is the microfilm reel number and note the FRAME and FRAMELST numbers for the location on the reel. Since the reel number begins with A or B, please contact RDT2 via email at archives2reference@nara.gov for access to them.
Morning reports for Army units from November 1, 1912 to 1959 (including Army Air Force units) are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL). For access to these records, please contact RL-SL via email at stl.archives@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2 and RL-SL. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
