Dear Ms. Rauch,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The Records of the Office of the Provost Marshal General (Record Group 389) include enemy POW camp files and these records consist mostly of camp inspection reports, camp labor reports, camp historical files, detention rosters, POW grave location reports, and Italian service unit reports. The records include minimal information about individual POWs. Not all of these reports or files were produced by each camp.
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Subject Files, 1942-1946 in Record Group 389 that contains the file Camps Inactivated: 6th Service Command: [Camp] Hoopeston, Illinois. This file has not been digitized. For access to and information about this file and similar records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Next, we located the series Photographs of American Military Activities, ca. 1918 - ca. 1981 in the Records of the Office of the Chief Signal Officer (Record Group 111) that includes 7 files related to Hoopeston. These images have been digitized and may be viewed online via the Catalog. Please contact the National Archives at College Park - Still Pictures (RDSS) at email@example.com with any questions you might have about these records.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2 and RDSS. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
Finally, the personnel records of World War II German prisoners of war were returned to Germany. For access to these records, please write to the Deutsche Dienstelle (WASt), Postfach 51 06 57, D-13400 Berlin, Germany. The website is https://www.dd-wast.de/.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
