Re: Seeking the name of soldier issued a M1911a1 pistol

Dear Mr. Cerreta,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Military records in the custody of the National Archives do not include the record of assignment and operational activity of individual pieces of equipment including pistols. Under normal War Department management procedures, such documentation would be destroyed after initial administrative use.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!

Lisa Sharik Dec 23, 2020 3:41 PM (in response to Joseph Cerreta)I checked the Springfield Research Service serial numbers volume 1-4 1999 editions. Your serial number was allotted to Remington-Rand and is near the end of the numbers they were issued (916405-10410404)
I could not find your specific serial number in these volumes. The closest two were 1031438 issued at Buckingham Field October 16 1945 and 1031582 issued at Ft. Bragg on December 12 1946.
You can contact the them directly SPRINGFIELD RESEARCH SERVICE to see if they have any informaiton on your weapon. There is a charge for their services.
