Dear Mr. Bowers,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
It depends in which military service the courts-martial occurred.
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the U.S. Army Courts-Martial Case Files, 1917 - 1938 in the Records of the Office of the Judge Advocate General (Army) (Record Group 153) that are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL). These records have not been digitized. For access to the records, please contact RL-SL via email at email@example.com.
We also located the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Records of Proceedings of General Courts Martial, 1866 - 1951 in the Records of the Office of the Judge Advocate General (Navy) (Record Group 125) that may contain the file from 1920 that you are seeking. These records have not been digitized. For more information, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RL-SL & RDT1. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
Thanks Shannon. I requested the file by mail today using the standard form 180. Thanks again.
Dear Mr. Bowers,
No SF 180 is necessary. Depending on the service branch, please send an email to one of the email addresses provided.
