Dear Mr. Stone,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
First, please check the third page of the Request Pertaining to Military Records Form SF 180 to determine where your records are located. The staff of the National Personnel Records Center cannot make name changes or corrections to military records or to your discharge status other than to make minor administrative corrections to fix some typographical errors. Retroactive service type awards also may be corrected based on information contained in the record. A correction is usually made by issuing DD Form 215, not by issuing a new DD Form 214. Please see NPRC Veterans Service Officer (VSO)- Record Corrections.
If your record is held by your branch of service, you need to contact them directly.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPRC is closed except for emergencies. Currently, NPRC will continue servicing requests ONLY associated with medical treatments, burials, and homeless veterans seeking admittance to a homeless shelter. If your request is urgent, please see Emergency Requests and Deadlines. Please refrain from submitting non-emergency requests such as replacement medals, administrative corrections, or records research until NPRC returns to pre-COVID staffing levels. Please check archives.gov/veterans for updates to the NPRC operating hours and status. We apologize for any inconvenience.
We hope this is helpful.
