Could you please provide more information about when the case was and which court heard the case? Was this a federal or state court?
Dear Ms. Duncan,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Whether any court records for the case still exist and where they might be depends on which court heard the case and when it was.
If it is a federal court case, a case relating to Cleveland County would be heard by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, Little Rock Division, or one of its predecessors. We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Equity Case Files, 1865 - 1938 and Law Case Files, 1866 - 1938 in the Records of District Courts of the United States (Record Group 21) that may have files for the case if it was within the time period covered by these record series. For more information about these and other federal court records for Arkansas, please email the National Archives at Fort Worth (RM-FW) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RM-FW. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
If this was a state court case, please contact the state court where it was heard to inquire about the disposition of the records. The Arkansas State Archives may also be able to assist you, depending on how Arkansas manages its court records.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
