Seeking records of 6957th Highway Transportation Division

    Marcia Petravicius Newbie

Hello, I am trying to track the movements of the 6957th Highway Transportation Division in WWII, specifically during the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns.  Would someone please advise if they have information or specifically what documents I need to request from the National Archives, to find the route, my Father's Truck Company took and the battles that he may have supported during January 1945 thru April 1945.  His Truck Company was the 3623d and I am trying to verify if his was in fact assigned to this Division and where they traveled. Thanks for any assistance.

          Dear Ms. Petravicius,

Thank you for posting your inquiry on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled “Histories, Reports, and Procedures, 1944 -1945” in the Records of Headquarters, European Theater of Operations, United States Army (World War II) (Record Group 498).  This series includes historical reports and correspondence pertaining to the history of the 6957th Highway Transport Division. We also located the series titled World War II Operations Reports, 1940-1948 in the Records of the Adjutant General’s Office (Record Group 407) that may include records of the 3623rd Truck Company and/or the 6957th. For access to these series, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

Further, you may wish to review a publication by the Center of Military History, United States Army titled “United States Army in World War II. The Technical Services. The Transportation Corps: Operations Overseas” by Joseph Bykofsky and Harold Larson as it contains references to the 6957th Highway Transportation Division. It is available in digital format on the website of the U.S. Army Center of Military History

We hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck with your research!
