    Daniel Plants Newbie

I am looking for copies of documents such as spot reports, after action reports, operation reports and lessons learned concerning the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division for the period October 1968 through May 1970 during the Vietnam War.

          Dear Mr. Plants,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

In our previous reply, we provided information about the 1st Marine Regiment. We were unable to locate specific records of the 2nd Battalion. Records of lower echelon units sometimes were incorporated into the files of the regiment.

Since the 1st Marine Regiment was part of the 1st Marine Division, we searched the National Archives Catalog and located 4 series of records relating to the 1st Marine Division in the Records of the U.S. Marine Corps (Record Group 127) during the Vietnam War. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck with your research!
