The German equivalent of Herder Street would be Herderstraße and there is a 1 Herderstraße in Wiesbaden, Germany. If that is the same street where your parents lived and this is the place you are looking for (it should show up on GoogleMaps if you wanted to see it), it would be an apartment. Whether that area housed multiple military families while your father served, I am afraid I do not know - though it seems that it would be likely.
Maybe you know this answer as well... My mother mentions a place called Stuttgart (berabera?) Not sure what she is saying (she passed away)
I can't figure it out on Stutgart maps or google because I don't know how to spell it.
I must admit I am stumped on that one. There is a Bära river in that part of Germany though it is quite a ways outside Stuttgart. Perhaps it could be a local nickname for an area or place, or maybe it even changed names throughout the years.
Dear Ms. Angland,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The address you provide is off base. Documentation of the places where military personnel were living off base would have been disposed of by the Air Force after its initial administrative use. You may wish to contact the Stadtarchiv Wiesbaden to inquire as to whether they have any city directories or other resources that would indicate what was at this address in 1948.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
The address I had is where my mother lived. I looked it up on google earth - it's an apartment building. That makes sense.
She worked for a military officer as a maid, so I have no idea where that would be. But thanks so much!
