Seeking Indian Claims Commission Records for Washington State

    JOYCE K LeCompte Newbie

Hello! I am looking for the transcript of proceedings before the Indian Claims Commission, docket 294; the Skagit Tribe of Indians, 1955. These are in Record Group 75, Tulalip Indian Agency records. I would be very grateful if you could guide me to where I can review the record group, and ideally order transcripts online.

          Dear Ms. LeCompte,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located 15 series in the Records of the Indian Claims Commission (Record Group 279) that are in the custody of the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1). After reviewing these series, please contact RDT1 via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.

We also located 7 series pertaining to the Tulalip Indian Agency in the Records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Record Group 75) that are in the custody of the National Archives at Seattle (RW-SE). After reviewing these series, please contact RW-SE via email at seattle.archives@nara.gov.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1 and RW-SE.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
