Seeking pictures of Buffalo soldiers

One collection that might be of particular interest to you is the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division's Gladstone Collection of African American Photographs. The collection provides almost 350 images showing African Americans and related military and social history. Military service photographs document participation in the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish American War, and World War I. Several photographs show Buffalo Soldiers, and one album is filled with portraits of officers of the 25th United States Colored Troops. We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Signal Corps Photographs of American Military Activity, (Record Group 111-SC), 1754-1954 that contains photographs of African American soldiers who served in the 9th & 10th Cavalry Regiments and the 24th & 25th Infantry Regiments who were termed “Buffalo Soldiers.” For access to and/or copies of these photographs, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Still Picture (RDSS) via email at stillpix@nara.gov.
