Where did USS Chipola serve in Vietnam in 1971?

I am trying to assist a veteran who served on the USS Chipola which was within 12 miles of the Vietnam coast in 1971. While I can find references to its being there, I can't find specific locations. Does anyone has any information or suggestions how I can find this information?

Hi Edward,
A record that will probably help you will be the ship's deck log. This is basically a daily journal of the ship's activities, and typically includes a note of their latitude and longitude. Unfortunately I believe the deck log you're looking for is temporarily closed to researchers due to a big scanning project; you can learn more about that here: https://www.archives.gov/research/military/logbooks/notice
