1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Sexton,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located two series in the War Department Collection of Confederate Records (Record Group 109) titled Record Books of Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Offices of the Confederate Government that includes correspondence, orders and telegrams relating to courts-martial of Confederate military personnel; and Carded Records Showing Service of Military Units in Confederate Organizations, 1903-1927 that may contain John Lewis Kuykendall’s service record. For access to and/or copies of records about your ancestor John Lewis Kuykendall, please contact the National Archives at Washington - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.
On Ancestry, we also located a John Kuykendall as a private in Company C, Texas 4th Cavalry Regiment. There may be a fee for using Ancestry. Instead, you may view these records online at one NARA's facilities for free via a NARA PC. For the nearest NARA location, please consult our web page at https://www.archives.gov/locations/. Also, some of the images from Ancestry are available for free on Family Search at https://www.familysearch.org/en/.
You may wish to contact the Texas State Library and Archives Commission; Cooke County Heritage Society; and Cooke County Texas Genealogy for additional information or research tips.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
