4 people found this helpfulMr. Baxter, NARA has custody of unit histories and operation reports of the 592nd Joint Assault Signal Company during WWII. The records will provide information about the whereabouts of the unit but not necessarily those of the servicemen assigned to it. Please contact the Textual Reference Archives II Branch at archives2reference@nara.gov for more information and how to order copies of these records.

3 people found this helpfulTo judge from the combat history of a sister unit, the 295th JASCO, finding information about an individual assigned to the company may be difficult. For the Corregidor assault, the 592nd JASCO probably worked with both the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment (Independent) and the 34th Infantry Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division, so there may be information concerning the JASCO in the records of these two infantry outfits. When not in combat, some, if not all of the JASCO's were assigned as corps level troops, which in this case would have been the X Corps, thus providing yet another possible source of JASCO information.

The National Archives at St. Louis holds the Army Morning Reports and Rosters for World War II.
Army rosters and Army morning reports through 1959 are now in the legal custody of the National Archives and Records Administration. However, Army rosters for 1944-1946 were destroyed in accordance with the General Records Schedule and are no longer available.
Images of these documents are stored on microfilm reels. Unfortunately, photocopies of the filmed images are often illegible. Due to the poor quality of the film reproduction, we do not offer photocopies of microfilmed rosters or morning reports through the mail, nor do we offer to sell duplicate reels of morning report microfilm.
If you would like to personally view the rosters or morning reports, we will make them available, by appointment only, in our Archival Research Room located at the National Personnel Records Center, Archival Research Room, 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138. For a small fee, you may print copies of the pages you want from the microfilm. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Archival Research Room in advance, by phone at (314) 801-0850 or by email at stlarr.archives@nara.gov.
An alternative to a personal visit is to hire an independent researcher to view these rosters or reports for you. For a listing of potential independent researchers, please visit the following website: http://www.archives.gov/research/hire-help/.

Re: How do I find out who the 592nd Joint Assault Signal Company was assigned to during the battles in the Philippines?
Stephen Baxter Jun 27, 2016 5:59 AM (in response to Stephen Baxter)Hello,
I've done what Rebecca suggested and have received some Annual History of Organization files from the NARA.
I've sent in a request for a price quote for additional files.
The letter from Megan Dwyre dated Feb 18, 2016 suggest contacting the National Archives in St Louis for copies of Morning reports. How would I go about putting a request in, as far as what to request? He was assigned to the 592nd JASCO but I do not know what company or unit he was attached to. I do know that he died in the engagement of Corregidor Island, PI. Any help in finding out the right report to request would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Stephen

Stephen,
See my prior note from Feb. 11, 2016, regarding in-person research or hiring a researcher. Our staff does not research morning reports.

Stephen-- Just to clarify... Yes, you can request copies of morning reports from St. Louis but you need to provide them with specific information such as a date and the unit of interest. As Daria stated, St. Louis is not staffed to conduct a search for you to pinpoint the exact morning report you need without this information. Therefore, your choices are to hire a researcher to conduct the search for you or to come in person. Becky
