Do draft cards verify service?

I research local cemeteries & verify Military Veterans from Indian Wars to present. I come across many that are marked as Veterans, but all I can find on line is their Draft Cards. Mostly WWI & II. It is my understanding that a only having a Draft Card does not indicate the person was a Military Veteran. I search NARA, Fold3 & Obits. Any suggests would be appreciated. Jack

We suggest seeking headstone applications, as they indicate veteran information. Headstone applications dated before 1925 are in the custody of the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1). For access to these records, please contact RDT1 via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.

Headstone Applications from 1925 to June 1970 are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL), P.O. Box 38757, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. For access to these records, please contact RL-SL via email at stl.archives@nara.gov.
