    Seeking Unit Records of Hospital #1 & 335th & 383rd Station Hospitals

    Newbie

Looking for information about my aunt, Olive Lucas, who enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in New York City in 1942.  In August 1943, she was stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ at Hospital #1, the all black hospital on the base. In October 1944, she was stationed at 335th & 383rd Station Hospitals in Tagap, Burma on the Ledo Road. Most of her service records were lost in the fire in St. Louis in 1973. I am looking for any information I can find about her. Thanks in advance for any help. Mary Robinson

          Dear Ms. Robinson,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives catalog and located a series titled Unit Annual Reports, 1940-1949 within Records of the Office of the Surgeon General (Army) (Record Group 112) that contains an annual report of activities of the 335th Station Hospital for 1943 (Box 159). The records indicate the 335th was activated on August 15, 1943 at Ft. Huachuca, AZ.

We also located a series titled World War II Operations Reports, 1940 - 1948  within Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1905 - 1981 (Record Group 407) that contains a “History for 1944” relating to the 335th Medical Station Hospital (Box 17449) and a “Final Unit History” for the 383rd Medical Station Hospital (Box 17454) for December 20, 1944 to October 30, 1945. Although the histories will contain little or no information about individual service, they will provide information about activities of the station hospitals. For access to and/or copies of all the records mentioned, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

We were unable to locate records of Hospital #1 stationed at Ft. Huachuca, AZ.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
