Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Merchant Marine Applications for Licenses of Officers in the Records of the United States Coast Guard (Record Group 26) for the World War II era. We were unable to locate additional applications for the time period requested at other NARA facilities. For access to and/or copies of Captain Johnson’s applications, please contact the National Archives at Riverside (RW-RS) at riverside.archives@nara.gov.
We also located other Merchant Marine-related records in Record Group 26 at NARA facilities in Atlanta and Boston for that time period:
Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1919-1958; Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1945-1964; Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1942-1969; Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1942-1973; Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1942-1974; Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1942-1963; and Official Merchant Vessel Logbooks, 1942-1978.
