    Seeking records of LST-610

    Elliot Schneider Pioneer

I'm looking for information on LST-610 Following the war, LST-610 performed occupation duty in the Par East and saw service in China until mid-June 1946. She was decommissioned on 28 June 1946 and transferred to the Military Government of Okinawa on 18 September that same year. The ship was struck from the Navy list on 23 December 1947.

So my question is my grandfather served in the military Police within the Military Government on Okinawa. He has a commendation letter stating that he and 5 other men provided security and guarded money aboard LST-610 which transferred a large amount of yen to Naze, Amami O' Shima on August 9th 1946.

According to Naval History website LST-610  was transferred to the Military Government. Would those records of this LST-610 be with the Military Government records and if any transfer of yen would this be done through the Military Government or Comptroller? Any help would be appreciated.
