Seeking records about Samuel Mitchell at Ft. Leavenworth

    Gene Dickinson Newbie

Samuel Mitchell died at Ft. Leavenworth Jan. 04, 1865, might be from GA, could be Samuel Fitzgerald Mitchell. I am trying to determine if this person is a relative. He is interred in Section: D  Grave No. 1010  Prisoner. Why was he imprisoned? What was the length of his sentence? Any and all help appreciated.

          Gene,

I found documents for him being buried as a prisoner. I also found a Samuel F. Mitchell that enlisted in Road Island in 1862. Do you know for sure were this individual was born or lived. Can family determine if in fact he was from Road Island. Additional information would help.

          Thanks,

              Elliot,

I have also found a document that shows, Mitchell, Samuel*,  *Citizen Prisoner.  That document was in U.S., Civil War Roll of Honor, 1861-1865 for Samuel Mitchell

Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Kansas    417

I have very little information on him, and that all indicates Georgia.  I do not think the Rhode Island person is the same.

He might have been in the Wildcat District of Georgia in the 1840's.  Might have married Susan (Sausian Redbird) about 1842.

At this point I have very little documented evidence.

I'm trying to connect him to Susan Mitchell (Sausian Mitchell 1819-1900) b. 28 Aug 1818, Clarke County, Georgia.  d. 6 Apr 1900, Winston Co., AL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm new to this website, so bear with me.

              Gene
