Dear Mr. Aldridge,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Individual Award Case Files, 1968 - 1972 of the 101st Airborne Division in the Records of the U.S. Forces in Southeast Asia, 1950 - 1976 (Record Group 472) but were unable to locate a file for Aldridge.
If photographs were taken of a medal ceremony, it is possible that they may be located in the collection of Army photographs taken during the Vietnam War that are in the custody of the National Archives at College Park - Still Picture (RDSS). Please contact the RDSS via email at firstname.lastname@example.org and the web site is https://www.archives.gov/dc-metro/college-park/photographs-dc.html.
We hope this information is helpful.
Dear Ms. Simons, thanks for your efforts.
All the medal recipients were members of Ftrp 8th Cavalry. We weren't on the roster of the 101st. Gen Tarpley was awarding the decorations because we were temporarily attached to the 101st during Lam Son 719. At the time of our attachment to the 101st. F/8th was part of the 23rd infantry division based in Chui Lai. And although I served as F/8th's medic for 9 mos. I was carried on the roster of the 123rd Aviation Battalion's medical unit. Complicated isn't it.
There was an Army photographer present and taking individual photos of each man being decorated. Whether he was Gen. Tarpley's/101st's photographer, "Star's and Stripes" or just an army photographer assigned to cover it I do not know. I will follow your suggestion about trying the Nat. Archives still photo's records. Thanks again, George Aldridge.
I don't know if this has what you are looking for, but there are some photographs from the 8th Cavalry in the following: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/2849824
You can ask about those by emailing the RDSS that Ms. Simons mentions.
There is also the following which records related to the 2d Battalion, 8th Cavalry and possibly other elements of the 8th Cav receiving valorous unit awards. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/4719597
These are held by National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) which can be emailed at Archives2reference@nara.gov. RDT2 also has some unit records for 8th Cav.
